My Mom is 67, she had a twin sister who passed away Jan 19, last year, from cancer that started in her arm, docs kept telling her it was arthritis, by the time they found it was cancer it had spread to her lungs and she died soon after, her aunt died the exact same way, her Mom died of ovarian cancer, my Mom has been having lots of pain in her elbow area, (she has had a broke arm before) she went to have an xray, she said she could see all this white stuff around where it hurts on the xray, they told her it wasn't cancer, but didn't know what it was or why it hurt, that doesn't seem right to me, shouldn't they know what it is, and knowing all the cancer in her family shouldn't they do more test? Do you think she should get a second opinion? I don't want to lose my Mom, I love her very much, please give me some advice!
Thanks for your time!!!

your mom should get a SECOND opinion right away !!! A biopsey should be done--an x-ray will NOT tell you if it is or isn't cancer---a cat scan then a pet scan-- NEVER JUST AN X-RAY when there is a family history of cancer!!!GO TO AN ONCOLOGIST NOW!!!! God Bless!!!

Yes. Get a second opinion, especially if there is an obvious bump or lump present. It is possible to have a benign or malignant tumor in the elbow. But it is very rare.

I know sarcoma patients whose cancer started in the knee or elbow. It could be a soft tissue sarcoma (malignant fibrous histiocytoma; Synovial sarcoma (common in joints like the elbow); Epithelioid sarcoma, and there are others) It is rare, but it happens. For a second opinion you might even elect to see a sarcoma specialist. Sarcoma is often misdiagnosed, because not many doctors see them. A soft tissue sarcoma can definitely be a primary tumor in the elbow or knee. Get it checked out.

Yes she should definetly get a second opinion. The fact that some doctors can get away with i don't know is unacceptable, this would never happen in many other countries.
We may not know everything about the human body but we know a lot and what we don't know we need to find out, that is the only way to find a cure for all the deady dieases we have today.
That doctor was a quack, as unfortunatly many doctors today are.

YES get a second opinion. If cancer runs in your family, you should also get checked. ANd with all that white stuff they should have taken a sample from her elbow. Me and my mom go and get checked together so we are there for each other in case something happens.

By all means if it would make her, you or your family feel better, seek a second opinion. Hopefully, it isn't anything, but doctors can be wrong.

yes, considering her family history I would definitely get @ least a second opinion....until you feel confident with the results....even if it takes two or three more opinions...she's worth it!

Except for malignant melanomas I have never seen a malignant tumor arise in the arm. Believe the doctors. They know what they see.
