If you survey average men like, what, 1 out of maybe 10-15 males in the US have mustaches. Unless you check police officers. Then it's about 8 out of 10. A holdover from a bad 70's macho gene? (Meant to be a fun question, but you have to admit it's true. Has to be a reason.)

Not a stupid question, quit being pathetic by flirting with an avatar and stick to the topic. Departments don't allow more facial hair than that. That makes sense. A reason, and therefore, not a stupid question. Thank you.

Next question, does Ronald agree with Ambi that cops with mustaches are sexy, or does he just like the answer in general?

I've always wondered that myself. Don't know about 8 out of ten, but when they do, they all seem to have the same ones! It is also seen in cheesey military guy mustaches as well... MAybe its the fact they have to be neat and trimmed that they stand out so much. I go with the whole macho thing. Growing facial hair is a primal thing. It seems more prevalent on motorcycle cops than regular cops also! A lot of it may do with the fact that its the only expression they can shown not covered by rules. Most depts make them have short, close cut hair, no beards, side burns etc, so a stash is their little show of rebellion.

True, but most departments will not allow anything more than a mustache. Most men these days have the trendy 5 o'clock shadow, a goatee, and whatever it is when you have hair on your chin but none on your upper lip. LE generally cannot have any of those. I have a mustache. If I could grow a goatee I would. I prefer having some facial hair as apposed to nothing. I cannot have anything but a mustache, so I do.

They also save their head. I have been a cop for some time and I never had a mustache or a bald head. I kinda laugh at the guys with the stache. I try not to look like your typical PO PO. Maybe I am just a really bad cop.

Have you looked at how young some police officers are. A mustache adds years and makes them look tough. Also damned sexy.

It is an easy way to change your appearance. That is, by having a moustache one day and shaving it off the next. If an officer is suddenly put on plain clothes duty by removing the moustache he can truly be unrecognisable. However, the point about young officers trying to look older and more mature is valid.........
However, it is the famale officers with moustaches that used to really worry me....

It's not so much the mustache that bothers me as it is the shaved head. They look like newly circumcised penis's. Please let it go out of style soon
