First of all rice is okay...if it is Brown Rice...white rice is not as nutritious.

Second, beef should not be your dogs primary protein. Dogs do not digest beef very well. You should use a poultry, primarily chicken, for your dogs diet.

Third, no milk. Most animals do not require the added calcium from the milk.

Oh, and I believe 'Dane Lover' has given some great advice other than the fact that dogs DO need vegetables/grains. Dogs, just like humans, benefit from the high nutritional value of whole, fresh, fruits and vegetables. Dogs are NOT carnivores...they need carbohydrates to survive...and live disease free. To reduce your dogs risk of developing heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc. feed a high quality, holistic dog food like - Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Wysong, Canidae, etc. You dog will grow strong and healthy.

Giant breed dogs' bones are growing until they are about 18 months old, so you're dog isn't done growing yet.

The problem with homemade diets is they often lack the vitamins and minerals that are ESSENTIAL for a healthy pet.

I have a home made dogfood recipe for a 18 kg (40lb) ADULT dog that I used for my last dog who stopped eating regular dog food while he had terminal cancer. You can use it for your dog but I would check with a vet to see what special needs a Great Dane puppy might have.

white meat chicken 65 grams
hard boiled egg 81 grams
cooked white rice 325 grams
All Bran cereal 26 grams
calcium carbonate (TUMS) 2 grams
iodized salt 1 gram
salt substitute 1 gram

This is a recipe for what he should eat each day. I would make a triple recipe and keep it refrigerated, warming it up to encourage him to eat it. I would throw any leftovers after 3 days because it can go bad without looking bad.

I would also give him one human adult multivitamin (centrum) to make sure he had everything he needed.

Hope this helps :)

ps 30 grams equals 1 ounce

The diet you are feeding is very incomplete and very inappropriate for an Adult Dane let alone a young growing Dane. It is sadly lacking in nutritional value.
If you want to feed a raw diet or a home cooked diet you need to research it a lot more. Dogs do NOT need grains/veggies, but they do NEED meats & bones in the appropriate amounts. They need a variety of meats not just beef..beef is quite inadequete.
I suggest joing a raw feeding group..there is a great one on Yahoo..Just look in groups under dogs..this group will give you a lot of useful information. You also can look up homecooked diets for dogs.
I suggest reading articles & books by Dr. Tom Longsdale and Dr. Ian Billinghurst.

You should also go to Danes On Line (DOL) and get more appropriate info on feeding a young growing Dane a raw or homecooked diet.

If you can't or won't feed an appropriate raw or homecooked diet please consider a good quality kibble such as Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul (adult regular or large breed adult), Wellness, Solid Gold,... make sure if you do feed kibble that it is an adult formula of not more then 24% protein.

This dog should be getting chicken, turkey, cottage cheese, cheese, bones or bone meal, organ meats, etc all in proper amounts.

One thing I do know about milk is that no adult animal needs milk for energy. Just about all animals become lactose intolerant when they reach adult hood. Have you ever seen a full grow wolf suckling it's mother? That's not meant to sound sarcastic but it is based in fact. When people say "Oh I'm lactose intolerant" they are just quoting the latest ill that plagues us all these days. Milk just clogs up adults. Switch to a small amount of non-sweetened Yogurt and cut out the milk. Danes are really big boned dogs and they do need to supplement their calcium to maintain those bones, especially in the next year when everything starts to settle after going through such a fast growth period. Ask your vet about what supplements would suit the dog best.

he needs to be fed a premium adult dog food for giant or large breed dogs. he is still growing and what you have been feeding him very well could damage his growth and bones. you need to talk to your vet about exactly what your dane needs. these are giant breed dogs and have very specific nutritional needs. dairy milk is not absorbed in a dogs gastro system the way it is ours and you could have caused him to lack calcuim which is something this dog badly needs. if you must feed him a homemade diet, but the amount he requires i would have to ask why, you need to speak with a veterinary nutritional specialist and soon before you damage him further.

I would consider the totally inadequate diet you are feeding this dog is abuse. This will lead to serious deficiency of essential nutrients, causing joint and bone disease. Your Dane will not be completely mature until he is three years old, and I doubt if he will live that long if you don't immediately give him a proper diet.
