I want ot get a Papillon in the future. I have read tons of good reviews on them, but I'm the kind of person who gets worried after reading just one bad review. Are they little yappy dogs with bad adittudes like Chihuahuas or are those just the girl Pap's? I've heard that boys are more lovable so I want to get a boy. Any advice?

Please keep in mind a few things: ANY dog will be yappy and vocal if you allow them. Secondly, Paps are wonderful little dogs with energy and do make good pets. They tend to be one person dogs. Third, be careful of the breeder.

Some papillon temperments are not correct any more (just like with any breed ...chi's are not suppose to be "yappy little dogs with bad attitudes"; they should be friendly and social); if you get one be sure you meet the entire family to get an idea of the temperment. Unfortunately over breeding has resulted in some paps being nippy.

Any dog can turn into a little yappy dog...the key is training them not to be that way. Papillons are beautiful dogs and if you want one by all means go for it. Just make sure you read up on how to train the dog or have some training courses lined up.

I have had both male and female papillons. Both very loveable and ute, but also different in temperament. Male was like a little ham... friendly to everyone and somewhat dimwitted.
Female was smart as can be and very affectionate with family, she was not very open to strangers or being petted on the street!
BUT with the right training and socialization your papillon will be well adjusted to whatever situation you have.

okay did you know that paps are prone to blood diseases?that is why you want one that has had genetic testing done to make sure that they dont have any of these inherited traits . Those paps are at least 2200.00 dollars us. can you afford 2200.00? If not then I would go with another breed of dog . paps are rather exspensive and my sister has one and she got one w/o genetic testing and her vet bills have been astronomical . You have to consider everything . good luck I hope that I helped .

Most small dogs will bark more than bigger dogs. Get him young and socialize him properly. Get dog training. If you like most of the traits then go for it, but be careful if you live in an apartment, the neighbours will not appreciate it! I guess you can cover the windows so he can't see the activity outside, which will make him bark less.

Enjoy your new dog, they make great pets.
