Light your bbq - use mesquite charcoal.
While it's heating up, season your steak - I like a tad of salt, pepper, garlic and paprika. Let sit until the charcoal is ready. Should be able to hold your hand over the coal for no more than 5-7 seconds.
Put steak on grill and cook for 5 minutes on first side, 4 on second. (This is for a 1 inch steak if thinner or thicker, then adjust the time to accomodate it.) A medium rare steak feels firm but gives a little (not too mushy) when you touch it with the tongs or finger.
Enjoy your steak!

It helps to start with a good steak, I prefer ribeye. You can marinate if you like but be sure not to salt it before cooking, that should be done after it has been turned .
Put your steak on a hot grill , let one side sear and cook for 4 to 6 minutes depending on it's thickness then turn it over and cook it about the same amount of time. Try to get it on one turn if you can, frequent turning will dry it out.
When you remove it and push with your finger and you get clear juices, it is done. Add your favorite sauce and enjoy.

If this is Fillet Minion cook it on a BBQ gas grill. Heat the grill on High for about 10 minutes. Reduce to Medium. Cook fillet's about 4 min on each side for Med Rare. Cut into meet to check redness of the meet to see if it should be longer or shorter cooking time.

season it with salt pepper and whatever else you like.
To cook it on top of the stove. Heat your pan first. Bouncing drop of water means that your pan is hot.
Add tbsp oil.
Lay the steak on the hot pan. Leave it alone!!
Turn over in 2-4 minutes depending on how thick it is.
When you touch the top center of the meat with your finger it will feel medium firm for medium. soft for rare and very firm for well done.
Once your steak has cooked leave it in the pan and add a tbsp of butter.
Let that melt then serve on a warmed plate.
I hate my steak too done, or cold so the warm plate will keep it warmer longer.
Enjoy!

This is what I do. I like sirloin or new york strip. Take your steak and rub all over with seasoned salt or tenderizer. I have a George Foreman grill. Preheat your grill for five minutes. Put steak inside and leave for about 10 minutes or until still pink in middle. Eat.

For a good steak, make sure you buy a good brand and good cut.
Black Angus (NOT Angus) or Rancher's Reserve are outstanding brands that you can get from the market.
Rib eye is the best cut.
Cook on high heat until browned on both sides, and pink in the middle.
When you think you have perfected this, invite me over. I'll bring the wine!

BBQ, no doubt. BBQ over med-high heat and do not constantly flip and poke. Put it on a hot grill for 6 minutes. Flip and season with steak spice and your fave BBQ sauce. Leave on for another 6 minutes. When you flip over and over again you lose all the juices that keep the meat moist. That is the best trick out there! Enjoy!

I have the perfect method and you don't need a timer.
Cook it on high heat on a grill or even in a pan this works. Just as the red juices start to ooze out of the raw top you flip it with anything but not a fork, you don't want to poke a hole and have juices run out. Then watch it again and as soon as the juices start to peek out of the cooked top it is done.
Do not keep turning or moving it. slap it on, see it ooze and flip, see it ooze and serve.

Depends...what cut is it? Are doing it on the stove top or the broiler or on a grill? Many things to consider when making a good steak. How thick is it?
Details....
