I happen to be a school bus driver and our company's buses do have seat belts...and all in working order because they are checked daily. The problem I have is making the children KEEP the seatbelts on...they (the kids) don't understand the danger of not wearing one and as soon as you pull away from the school, most unbuckle them.

School buses were designed that children should not have to wear seat belts(height of the seats and etc). After the accident in Alabama when the school bus plunged off the highway NTSB is considering to pass a law that seat belts be a must for ever sort of vehicle.

because the school district doesn't want to spend the extra money it costs to place seat belts in the buses, although the bus driver has a seat belt, also 3 kids to a seat is too many and no room.
Some people will argue that they are safer without a seat belt but I beg to differ if the bus flips over and the kids have seatbelts they won't go flying and getting severly injured

it is all a money scam. there is no way to defend a seat belt ticket even if you are wearing it. the bus companies and schools don't want to "waste" money on providing seatbelts. i heard ireland passed a law requiring them on school buses.

Because to the bus companies its a waste of money to put seatbelts in school buses.
