could it be because we have cable internet or could it possibly be through our phone company? we are moving so i wanted to know if we will still have that privilage

if you have high speed cable then what has happend is the installer did not install the filter or trap at your main line. there are 2 traps. one blocks all cable and one blocks premium cable. u cant have internet without a modem being activated so its not necessary for an internet trap. ex cox communications installer/tech

If you have cable internet but don't have cable TV, there's likely still some cable channels on that cable line. They usually put in a filter (a trap) that passes through only the frequencies used by the cable modem but still they will let a few channels through. Sometimes they don't put them on at all, and if you get all the basic channels, that's probably what happened in your case. If you ever had an installer come over and check things out afterwards for troubleshooting, they'd likely catch it and put it on. Sometimes I've seen them put on at the grounding block at the house, which is easy enough to take off yourself. Other times they'll have it at the house, but in a box with a special screw/nut that you need a special tool to open up. Most times its at the distribution block on top of the telephone pole. Chances are when you move, they won't make the same mistake, but you never know.

When you have cable internet, a certain range of channels need to be available. They typically install a filter to block the television channels, and if you decide to subscribe to a television package tehy remove it. However, It seems common for teh installers to forget or to be too lazy, some will even take a bribe to leave it off, however, you do not have a "right" to watch those channels, but I have never heard of any cable co doing anything about it.

If you're not subscribing to no services many cable companies will block all channels through a filter attached at the cse (customer subscriber enclosure), pole, or services box at the street depending how you're wired. Cable companies have different types of filters to block certain channels (ranges of signal) depending on service you subscribe to. But because you are subscribing to Internet there is still a filter (if the cable guy put it on) but you'll only get a few channels not sure how many as they can't block all of them or your cable modem wont be able to lock onto the RF carrier signal on the line. So if you do move you might get bare minimum channels unless they forget to put the filter on.

if youve got a set top box - it would appear that the box was not properly instaled or the company has made an error on your account.

without a set top box - you are missing frequency traps on your cable connection and will likely not have this benefit when you move

-now if you have internet only and are not supposed to be recieving tv at all a trap that is supposed to go on your drop will block your video on all channels and may or may not go away when you move

It's probably that the cable company did not install a filter when they installed you r cable internet.

i beleive you have it because you have an internet connection and they can't give you the internet with out giving you cable.

It happens a lot more than you think. It's kind of a glitch in their system, most likely you won't have it if you move.
