You will know when

When you can honestly say that you are totally happy.

When the person you are with makes you feel like you are the most important person in the world. When even though there are things about the other person that might bug you but you still love them all the same. When you want to wake up every morning with that person, you want to be able to share everything with them, even the bad bits.

My bf proposed to me after we'd been together a few months, but we decided that it was too soon, that we wanted to wait untill we are together (currently i'm in middlesbrough studying and he's living with his parents near York, so we only get to see each other every few weeks and for only a couple of days at a time) We have both agreed that we want to get married, but it wouldn't be practical as neither of us have the money.

I would suggest that it is something that has to be talked about openly between parteners.

I think a person is ready for marriage when they are
financially
emotionally
and mature enough
to support a family without outside help.

When we are happy with ourselves, and where we are. One can't expect someone else to make us happy or make someone else happy, if we aren't first relatively secure. Marriage doesn't solve every problem, it can add more, so we need to have reasonable expectations.

When we have done the things we want to while single and are ready to live for and with someone else.

When we are ready to make a commitment to someone.

When we have gotten to know someone so well we can't imagine living without them.

You will know it in your gut the minute you meet the right person; I asked my boyfriend to marry me after only a fortnigt (he said no then ;oD), - now 20 years on we're still together and have been married for the better part of ten years. I kept asking him at a regular basis (once every month for 9 years, - talk of being patient!)....

When you are ready to promise each other, in front of all your family and friends, and really mean it with no doubt in your minds, that you will love each other and stay together:

For better or worse
For richer or poorer
In sickness and in health
For as long as you live

when you are sick of the site of each other

When you argue over silly things and don't talk for days after

Then you know that you are ready for marriage cos thats the way it will be for the rest of your life.

You don't feel any need or desire to go and see if the grass is greener on the other side.
You're comfortable with each other, trust each other, and have the same goal.
Obviously, no need to say that if you do love each other it's even better.xxx

If you need to ask, then you're probably not ready. You'll know when its right for you, if you have to hesitate at all, then you know you're not ready.

you know when you are right to get married when you can except each others faults. if you feel that this is the right man/woman for me then its time to get married. i was going out with my husband now for 11 months and he proposed to me i knew from about 6 months that this was it for me. we can be ourselves and not have to pretend to be someone else. good luck
