Could be a lot of things. Maybe the puppy is eating the food and you don't realize it... maybe he has worms... maybe he has something more serious. You never know unless you take him to the vet. My cat was very steadily losing weight, and then one day he started vomiting everywhere, even though he was perfectly healthy before that day... I took him to the vet and he had FIV... I'm not saying that's what your cat has, I'm just saying it could be absolutely anything, and you should get it checked out before it gets more serious.

Gee, am I the only one that sees a stressed cat here? Try treating the cat with some Rescue Remedy from a health foods stores for the stress he is going through adjusting to the puppy. Holly is the Bach flower essence to use for jealousy and I would start with the RR. You just shake the bottle well and put three to four drops on the cat's fur between the ears. Do it four times a day for a week or ten days.
Of course if the cat is not eating AT ALL then it is a veterinary emergency so watch that the cat is eating something every day.

Lots of things could be wrong such as liver or kidney problems, diabetes etc. She could possibly be just stressed out over the pup. I wouldn't waste time. Bring her to the vet to check. If it is just stress the vet can give you inexpensive medication to stimulate the appetite. A more natural way to stimulate the appetite is by gently petting her while she's at her food dish. This is relaxing & soothing to her. I worked for a vet and we did this with sick cats all the time to get them to eat before giving meds. In most cases it worked. Did you know that if a cat doesn't eat for as little as three days that it's vital organs can start to shut down. Very important that she eats and drinks. If I were you, I would call the vet for advise on this. Sorry if your cat is a he and I've been calling him a she, apologize to him for me.

Just like fly on the wall said- could be nothing serious like worms to VERY serious, like kidney problems. I had my beloved family cat I grew up with die from kidney problems. It was awful. Get to a vet asap! I hope it is just worms. Or jealousy of the dog- I am sure that is possible too. Something my current cat loves are wellness tabs multivitamins. If your cat is just not eating due to jealousy (per a vet's assessment) i am sure vitamins will help lots.

Have you checked the puppy for worms or some other type of disease? Plus most cats are very picky if something happens they don't like, for example bringing a new puppy home, you must respect this and get rid of one or the other. Trust me I almost had my cat run away when we brought home a kitten called spanky.

Time to deworm the cat.. de-worm is the best and works for your new puppy too.
Worms are no ones fault as the cat has probably caught and eaten a mouse that was wormy... it happens.
GOOD LUCK

Take your cat to the vet! Preferably as soon as possible.
Your cat could have worms. He could have hypothyroidism (low thyroid function). He could have diabetes. He could have a bowel impaction from eating soemthing he shouldn't have. He could have an infection, tumor, or fever that you haven't noticed because cats are really really good at hiding stuff like that.

Sudden and dramatic loss of weight in a cat is a cause for concern... could be anything... but you really should take your cat to the vet for an exam.

Have your vet check out the cat. Low thyroid causes an animal to loose weight and hair.

Is your puppy eating the cat's food? If the cat's food is out continually, the puppy doesn't know it's not puppy food. If you know your cat is eating, it's definitely time to get him to the vet.
