I just lost about 30 pounds, so I've been on a work out & diet plan for several months. But now I am looking at doing my first 5K in about 3 weeks. I'm looking for advice on the best way to train? Should I just change all my work out sessions to jogging only? Or keep up the weights, stair stepper, ect. Also advice for the day before and day of, what to eat? What to wear? Or anything else I'm forgeting to think about? Any help would be great!

vary your workouts. up your water intake. carbs are important the night before. wear running tights and a shirt if it will be cold. you might want to layer just in case. don't wear brand new shoes. break them in beforehand. wear synthetic socks - never cotton! and don't forget your sunscreen and a hat.

for a 5k you should vary your training, because it's not very long distance, but it's not very short either, you know? do jogging, sprints, and faster running. mix it up. keep up the stair stepper and weights and etc. for the day before, eat carbs carbs carbs. spaghetti is good! i'm guessing the run is in the morning, if so..eat a banana and a power bar maybe? not too much. if it's cold wear running tights, they will keep your legs warm, so you don't pull a muscle or anything. stretch after all of your workouts, drink lots of liquids (water, especially). good luck!

Jennifer is onto some thing for certain. I consider a small serve of pasta one million.five to two hours earlier than and gatorade 15 minutes earlier than is the nice solution to cross. That means your bloodstream is hydrated and packed stuffed with quite simply to be had vigour whilst your belly is fairly empty (a truly no-no being complete on a run). Stretches, hot up, and a going for walks speed that's comfy. You must be competent to speak with out gasping thats a well indicator of an appropriate speed, if you're doing good velocity it up after a K or two and notice the way you cross, if its too difficult again it off somewhat, installed somewhat extra for the final K if you'll be able to cos itll be over quickly besides. Shorts (in case you had been on the grounds that a tracksuit, dont do it youll remorse it). Yes, Your favorite motivating upbeat tune for certain and dont be concerned i assurance it wont be as dangerous as you consider.

Someone asked me this about 5mi this morn since i'm ex army and taught basic training. Find 2 running partners as close to your height as you can. When 1 of you gets exhusted go in the middle arms to the side and you partners help just enough to keep you from droping out. Also those stupid cadence songs dumb as they are help you keep pace. Beleive they exist as Mp3's (if you can't find any I've got a bunch of the cleaner ones)

strength training probably wouldn't help you at the moment. what you really need is endurance training. you should start out slow and at short distances and slowly work your way faster and more distance until you can run more than 5k. the further you can go the faster and easier a short distance will be. trust me. at least 6 miles a day in cross country is what we do.
