There are lots of books with CDs or tapes that are great starting points for learning to speak a language - Japanese isn't too hard of a language to learn

Far too general so all i'll answer is pronounciation.

Japanese should be spoken hin a sort of hi-low staccato, di da di da di da di da. Unlike Chinese or French it is not musically flowing but it's like train tracks in it keeps a steady pitch variation.

One must also remember that they have several sounds we don't have in English. For example romanized r is closer to our "L" but is in fact between the two. Half R half L we don't have a sound or example for it. Western people can get away with the L sound but it's not perfect.

Hard for me, I lived there 3 years and didnt. The kids had no problem, learned from tv.
