Photoshop uses up lot of RAM on your PC. You may not have a powerful enough pc, not enough RAM or not enough space on your HD. Your scratch disc is probably the C drive. To get rid of the error, go into Photoshop prefences menu and select another hard drive for your scratch disc if you have a second drive. If you don't, select none.

Depends on what kind of Photoshop you have and your computer's hardware, if you have a low-end computer then consider upgrading its memory or it's Virtual memory, along with increasing memory you should increase your hardrive so, your computer can turn to your HD as backup if your memory is full, my recommendation is either use Photoshop 7.0 for computers with 600 mhz processors and 128 mb memory or higher. If you have CS2 or CS3 i recommend atleast 1 GB memory and 2 GHZ processor for the best performance.

I'm not sure about the scratch disk thing. However, I do know that you should have all the latest updates to Photoshop installed. The updater should be under Help > Check for Updates or something like that.

If that doesn't help you might want to consult the Adobe Support page:

I get the same message however mine does not crash,
do you have other programmes running at the same time?
maybe there is just a conflict betwee programmes or you may need more ram, next time it happens leave it for ages and see if it start running again on it's own

Stratch disk is like memory. Ie its holds the undoos and acts as memory during porcessing.

if its on the same disk running windows and photoshop its trying to do it on with one disk... not easy.

What you need is more memory, better porcessor and ideally two disk system.

so it uses the other disk as its scratchdisk memory

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
