I have it, but the answer to making them harden is all in the cooking time. If thety do not cook long enough they will never harden at all. If they cook too long they will get too hard and crumbly like sand.
I make them like this:
1. 2 CUPS SUGAR
2. 1/2 CUP MILK
3. 1 STICK MARGARINE
4. 6. 4 TBSP. COCOA
5. 2 TSP. VANILLA
6. 1/2 CUP PEANUT BUTTER
7. 3 CUPS OATMEAL
Cook 1st four ingredients until boiling. Boil 5 minutes. Take off heat. Stir in next 3 ingredients. Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper or cookie sheets. Let cool until firm. Makes about 2 dozen.
As I said, the trick is in the cooking time. You Must cook the first 4 ingredients for 5 full minutes. Start counting AFTER the mixture comes to a full boil. No less, or no longer.
Hope this helps you. Good luck.
P.S. The peanut butter is optional, I like to use it.

Drop by rounded Teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper. Allow cookies to cool for at least 1 hour. Store in an airtight container.

No Bake Coconut Sweets
* 1 1/2 cups of sugar
* a pinch of salt
* 1/2 cup of milk
* 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
* 3 cups quick oatmeal (I use Quaker)
* 3 tbsp chocolate milk drink powder (I use No Name)
* 1 tbsp cocoa powder, unsweetened
* 1 cup sweetened coconut
* 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Put sugar, milk and shortening in a pan and bring to a rolling boil.
- Remove from heat.
- Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet.
- Chill for less than 10 minutes, sweets are ready !
No Bake Chocolate Cookies
* 1/2 cup butter or margarine
* 2 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened baking chocolate*
* 2 cups sugar
* 1/8 teaspoon salt (optional)
* 1/2 cup milk (or evaporated milk)
* 1/4 to 1/3 cup peanut butter
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 3 cups quick-cooking oats
1. Have all ingredients measured and ready. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper or foil; set aside.
2. In a large heavy saucepan melt the butter and chocolate over medium heat, stirring constantly. Add the sugar, salt and milk and continue stirring until mixture comes to a full rolling boil. Without stirring, let mixture boil for exactly 3 minutes, no more - no less. Immediately remove from heat.
3. Stir in peanut butter and vanilla, stirring until peanut butter has melted. Quickly stir in the oats, mixing well.
4. Working fast, drop mixture by spoonfuls onto waxed paper or foil. Allow to cool and become firm, about 30 minutes.
Makes about 24 cookies.
*Or substitute chocolate squares with 6 tablespoons baking cocoa and increase the butter to 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons. Combine the sugar, salt and baking cocoa in the saucepan first, slowly add the milk while stirring until all ingredients are moistened; add the butter and continue as directed above.
