You need to have a floppy startup disc and Win 98 disc. Install win98 over the old installation will usually fix these errors.

These lines in your Config.Sys file load 16bit legacy drivers, one is for Extended Memory Management and one is a Legacy CD-ROM driver.
These lines are no longer needed in the 32-bit operating environment for win98. In fact, Setup will remove these lines prior to setup. AND, you can safely use an empty config.sys file, in fact it is recommended,..
As for command.com, you will need to copy the file from a Windows 98 Startup diskette into your c:\windows folder to get windows running again.
So find a friend with Windows 98SE, and ask them to make a Startup disk.
*Insert the startup disk and choose to boot with cd-rom support*
A:\>c:
Then at the C:\ prompt, edit your config.sys file. Simply type: edit config.sys and remove all the lines. Save the file you've just edited, it should be blank.
Then patch your missing command.com file, from the Emergency Boot directory, copying it into C:\Windows.
You can find command.com anywhere on the Internet also.
â¦There are different versions of command.com, make sure to get the one specifically for 98â¦
Good luck with that one.

Hard disk errors, most likely. For Windows 98, the PC starts DOS, which then runs Windows on top of DOS. This is why you see references to missing files on C:.
I would say that you could run a chkdsk, but since the command interpreter cannot be loaded, this is not an option. You need to boot from a floppy diskette, and, from there, perform a chkdsk /f
If the chkdsk is able to run, it may identify and repair damaged areas on your hard disk. If you can't run a chkdsk, you should attempt to reformat the hard disk and reinstall an OS. My advice would be to run something more recent than Windows 98.

Your OS is corrupted. Not your fault. The absolute easiest thing to do is to get a new computer. You should have the most advanced OS (for security) I recommend Apple.
If you want to keep that one with 98, you will need to find the discs that it was installed with. Ebay or something like that would have it.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
