I would honestly have to say that if you have to ask this question, you are probably very close.

It doesnt matter what amount. The fact is that you consume alcohol on a regular basis that makes you an alcoholic. Be it a bottle a day or less than that.
Normal people dont need a drink, and dont have to ask this question.

I agree with those who say you cannot assign a number to it. Some people can drink regularly, and perhaps to excess, and still not be considered to be an alcoholic. While others must avoid any alcohol. Two factors seem to define alcoholism to me: 1. Once the person starts, he/she will drink until drunk; or 2. a person drinks chronically (every day) just to get through the day. Neither condition is very good, and means the person has turned their life over to something they cannot control, which is a waste of a valuable life.

i don't think it matters how much alcohol consumed that makes you an alcoholic. yet the want and desire for alcohol. if you feel the need to have a drink for any reason. whether to relax or get in the mood. also if starts to interfere with daily life by hiding the fact you have a drinking problem then i would have to say your and alcoholic.

It is not necessarily the amount of alcohol consumed per day. Read the Alcoholics Anonymous pamphlet, "44 Questions", to help determine if one is an alcoholic.

well my sister went to an alcohol rehab center and they told her that if you drink more that 1 drink a month you are considered an alcoholic. But I think these days, you could get plastered once a week and still be considered normal. if you drink daily you probably have a problem.
*note* last time i drank was 2 years ago at a social event

Hmmm, i don't know if there is an exact amount, but i think that any alcohol used daily as a means of survival would make you an alcholic. The point where alcohol disrupts your life and hurts your family.

if you ever went to an alcoholic`s animus meting, you would here of the many types of alcoholics there are, there are weekend only alcoholics, there are social alcoholics that only have to drink when at any type of social gathering, there are those whom have to drink a certain amount every day, and those whom drink not stop form the moment they wake up-till they go to sleep for the night. the main determining thing is an alcoholic is determined by someone whom feels he or she can`t live with out drinking"! if there ready to fight if the alcohol is prevented from them having is one clue.

The "alcoholics" I have seen, are ALWAYS drinking. They need alcohol in their system to function. If you have 8 drinks before bed that may not be alcoholic. An alcoholic NEEDS a drink when he wakes up.

to me it is not so the amount as the desire for it.yes large quantities are a good sign but if a person cannot go with out it they are definately addicted.had a friend that told his wife if you dont have a beer with you when you pick me up,then dont pick me up.the store was only a minute away.that is alcoholism at its finest.
