I've heard a lot of negative things, but I was told to disregard them because they came from "snotty southeners". Apparently, there's a major class division over there. I am planning a study abroad at Leeds University, so I just want to know what I'd be getting into.

Class division in England in general; not specifically Leeds.

I studied at Leeds University (and come from Leeds), but now live in Sydney, Australia. Leeds is a really great place - excellent student life (Headingley, Hyde Park, Leeds City Centre); fantastic shopping (Leeds market is great for continental foods), the nightlife is really excellent with tons and tons of places to go (whether it be the centre or out of town). I wouldn't be worried about going to Leeds, its a lovely place. There is a bit of a class division - obviously there are some pretty poor places (i.e. Halton Moor, Gipton) and on the other hand you have the city workers/livers, but you probably won't come across this much as you will be experiencing the student life. The only thing I would say is to get involved in some sort of crime initiative, as the student community of Leeds University (as in all universities) do get targeted a little bit. So, be aware of security and you will be fine.

Hi

Leeds has become a busy, modern city and from what I've heard a great place to be a student.

This guide might be of some use...
