I guess it's a double-edged sword. One one hand, the distance between both people can help strengthen their love for one another. By being apart from each other, they are more likely to value and cherish the time they have together.. Both individuals are more likely to work harder to be together.

On the other hand, the distance can easily lead to losing interest in each other or being distracted by someone else who is closer. Not to mention the level of trust is less likely to be as high. Most people in a long distance relationship would be spending a lot of time wondering and worrying if their partner found someone else. And without trust, the house of cards pretty much collapses.

I guess it depends entirely on how committed each person is to making it work.

Of course they can work out, but they are significantly more
difficult than a local relationship. Know that going into it and
be prepared for the added work, expense, and issues.
