I found myself in similar circumstances. I was unhappy with certain aspects of life and overeating to compensate. It took me years to realise that this is why I was overeating. You need to sort out your unhappy marriage and emotional abuse first. That could well be what is driving you to eat too much. Diets rarely work - that's why there are so many of them. You need to get control of your eating as I bet when you "fail" a diet (or rather, the diet fails you) it makes you eat more to comfort yourself. The gastric bypass idea is far too drastic but don't expect any help from the NHS. They couldn't give a monkey's. Seeing a therapist could help but it didn't in my experience (I had private healthcare through work so it was easy to get a referral from my disinterested GP as he didn't have to do anything - otherwise you may have to pester him more if you really want to see a therapist). The thing with the gastric bypass is that you still won't be taking responsibility for your eating which is what made you overweight. Take control of your eating and don't allow it to govern your emotions. How you do this is easy. You eat what you like but only until you feel comfortably full and you pay attention to how that food makes you feel. Similar ideas are explained in various books you can find but it does work. It isn't easy but this isn't about diets or drastic surgery, it is about you getting control of your life. No doctor will do that for you and it doesn't sound like your spouse will either so it will be down to you. That said, imagine the sense of achievement you'll feel when you gain control and turn your life around.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

My tax dollars hard at work. Pick up the phone and call around. Call your local hospital and ask if they know of any. You may need to call the bigger city hospitals to find one that does this surgery, they would be able to give you names of MD's. If you talk to Case Management or Social Services within the hospital, they could probably help you also. Good luck.

Try the obesity help website. It lists doctors and what kinds of insurance they accept. Also post this question there, you're much more likely to get a good response.
