I was never baptised, and supposedly my aunt (who's a really religious Baptist) told my parents that they should baptise me or I would go to hell. That upset me, and I'm wondering if that's true. I mean, I don't go to church, but I beleive there is a God, and I am a good person.

Well, it depends on which religious perspective you want to look at it from. Even within Christianity there is much debate. Some Christians believe in predistination, so if you were going to hell, you getting baptised wouldn't matter. Others belive it is completely necessary. Personally, I'm Catholic, we believe that people definitely should get baptised, but that if you live a good life, follow moral laws and you're conscience, and don't harm others, you are acting as an "anonymous Christian," and can definitely still go to heaven. This is also a convenient way for us to grandfather in great religious leaders of other religions who were good people. So really, it's what you believe. If you believe in a God that would make salvation contingent upon a ritual, then you should probably go through with it. If not, then follow your conscience, follow the moral law, treat your neighbor as you would like to be treated, and you'll probably be ok.

Have you prayed the sinner's prayer of salvation? (Romans 10 verses 9-10). The ticket into heaven(or out of hell) requires that you pray to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and believe that He died for your sins and was raised from the dead. Very simple, actually. Too bad the church makes it so complicated with all the required rituals. Baptism is simply a public profession of your faith and does not get you through the pearly gates. Remember the thief on the cross next to Jesus at the crucifixion? He said, "Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom" (Luke 23:42). Jesus responded by saying, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43). No baptism there and he definitely did not go to hell. As long as you believe, you can receive the free gift of salvation (ticket to heaven). That's why the word "gospel" means "the good news." Its good news that getting into heaven isn't complicated! However, having said all that, I have to say that being baptised is a wonderful experience, but not essential to salvation.

The only thing for salvation is that you accept Jesus' death and Resurrection as the only full payment for your sin debt. Also, note that the theif on the cross believed and was promised a place in Heaven but was never baptized. See also Acts 4:12.

Note that the common passage used by salvation-by-baptism people is Acts 2:38 "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." but note that it is saying to be baptised 'because of the remission of sins.' Not that the baptism is to produce salvation but that salvation has already happened and you are now identifying yourself with other Saved People.

First of all, you need to understand that going to church or being baptised DOES NOT SAVE you from Hell. The only way to Heaven is by accepting Jesus as your Savior and asking him to save you and forgive you from your sins. Ephesians 2:8 says by grace are ye saved, not of yourself, for it is a gift of God. 2:9 says not of works, lest any man should boast. Being a good person is one of the fruits of being a Christian, but it won't save you either. Read the book of Romans, it lays out the road map to Heaven. I don't know what your aunt is talking about, its possible she misunderstood a sermon, as I'm a Baptist and we don't believe that baptism saves you, its an outward sign that you accepted Jesus, and it doesn't "wash away your sins" either. I'm glad that you believe in God, but take it a step further and trust in His Son too. God Bless

If you really were a believe, you'd want to be baptised
as soon as possible just in case it's necessary to go to
heaven; and we are to follow Jesus' ways....and He himself
was baptised. We, here on earth, are not the judge, That
is only for Jesus to decide as He's the one that knows
everyone's heart.

No:

If this was so it would imply that works get you to heaven since baptism is a work.

However, the Bible says that once you become a Christian you need to be baptized as a profession of your faith before men.

Also, just believing there is a god will not get you to heaven either. You must believe that Jesus was and is the Son of God and that through His sacrifice you may be washed clean and allowed to enter the Kingdom of God (Heaven).

The only way that you will get to Heaven is through salvation.
1. Admit that you are a sinner, we all are. (It comes from Adam)
2. Ask Jesus to be your saviour and to come into your heart.

Baptisim might make you a member of a particular Church, but without salvation, you will end up in Hell.

There is so much evidence in the Bible of this.
Hope that helps

no you will go to heaven if you're a believer that hasnt gotten baptized. Baptists are like that.
no i didnt say all baptists are bad... i'm simply saying baptists have different beliefs, dont put words in my mouth
but the only way you will go to heaven is if you ask Jesus to be your personal Savior... just because you believe there is a God isn't enough...

no.
no matter what you have heard, baptism has nothing at all to do with salvation.
salvation has to do with one thing and one thing only; your personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

John 3: The Words of Jesus Christ (God in the flesh)
3. "Verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
4. Nicodemus saith unto Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
5. Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."
6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
16. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18. He that believeth on Him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
