So now what do I do? How do I find out who that was.

It is against the law to harrass using US telephone lines so you have a legit gripe.

The best thing to do is to first setup your phone service to DENY any numbers that are blocked. You couldn't *69 them because they had a blocked number.

Once you activate this, they can't call you without releasing the #.

This should stop them.

If this is really bothering you, MAKE SURE you write down the time and information when they called. you will need this information if you ever file for a restraining order.

Chances are they won't call again however if they do you may be able to press *57 (this is "call trace" in our neck of the woods). Check in you phone book for the equivalent in your area. This will trace the call and record the number that called. The police can acess this number only with a warrant. They won't bother getting a warrant unless the calls involves some kind of threat or if you are getting many, many calls. Our policy for annoying calls only (no threats) is to tell the person to get a new unlisted number. That usually does the trick. Wait and see if they continue to call you.

It's probably just some immature people that know you, or were just going through random phone numbers in the phone book.

Ignore it. If it continues, change your number with no message being given to notify people of the new number. Maybe get a new cell phone carrier if that's what phone was being called.

There may not be a way to find out who it was - even with a trace. Traces cost a lot of money. For pranksters - it's really not even worth the time and effort.

Call your telephone company and report it. They can set up a trap line and find out who it is. They will report it to the police, not you. You will have to write down the exact times of a call. Sometimes the phone company charges $100 to trap your line. Also, if it's a real problem, the phone company will change your phone number for you, free of charge.

Easy call the telephone company and report it, and if it keeps on you can change your number or file a police report. Eventually they will stop. Also you can change your number temporarily.

Ask next time they call. Or wait on the phone bill and check the number when it comes in.
