I was born in Banff, Alberta and it is spectacular. The Banff springs hotel is a must-see. They have an amazing hot springs that lights up at night and because it's so secluded the stars are super bright. Canmore is it's sister city and it's also beautiful. They have lots of quaint bed and breakfast's there. My absolute favorite is the Lady McDonald Inn. Jasper is also another beautiful spot. Tons of hiking trails, bike trails and pristine lakes. If you stay in Jasper the Jasper park lodge is truly phenomenal. The road to Jasper is also littered with amazing waterfalls that run from the mountains. My fav. is Bow Falls, of course that's also where I got engaged! Calgary is a good place to visit if you are interested in the Calgary Stampede. I am not sure what month you are planning on visiting but the stampede is world renound and runs from June to July I believe. If you aren't into amusement parks you can visit the calgary tower and see a spectacular view from the top of the tower. There is also a restraunt up there. Calgary also had the winter olympics in 1981 so Canada Olympic Park and Olympic Oval are a must see. Pretty much anywhere you go in Alberta you will see amazing views.

In Ontario, I'd say the best family vacation place would depend on what you like. If you are the outdoorsy type person, then Pelee is great. If you want action and amusement, then the obvious place would be Toronto, with Canada's Wonderland and the Zoo etc. If you like the arts (more specifically theater) then there is Stratford.
Hope this helps.

Lake Louise and Banff in Alberta. Oodles of hiking and activities (sulfur pool anyone!) and sight seeing. Chinaman's peak is a fun and challenging hike. Lake Louise is a lovely hike up to the tea house though crowded. For the touristy shopping, eating there is Banff.
We also did mountain biking with rentals and white water rafting plus drove up to the glaciers. All very cool.

I live in Ontario, but I would recommend a vacation to Banff Alberta.
It's absolutely breathtaking.
Also if you go there take a trip to the badlands and the hot springs.
