Living in New England, I've been spoiled over the years and having tried various combos I truly think the meal that works best is to just keep the lobster the star of the show and have good, basic sides to round out the perfect meal. I'd of course have clarified butter (just keep heating and scooping off the foam on top), a big baked potato hot out of the oven, and this time of year I'd go with asparagus. Later in the season I'd might add or substitute a nice fresh ear of corn on the cob. If you want you could toss in some bread, but not sure you'll need another starch. And starting w/a salad is great if you want to add another course to the meal. YUM wish I was coming for dinner! Enjoy!

for a true New Englanda, there is no side dish, just a perfectly steamed/boiled Lobster(10 Minutes for 1-1/4lb) the broth and melted butter, if this seams to plain get a 2-1/2 pounder or two 1-1/4 pouders, if you really need a side dish then a simple Maine or Idaho Baked Potato with melted butter, even better a 1/2 pound of Steamed clams or little necks

I like a small salad, and I also like brown rice on the side. I throw on some lemon juice on lobster. Yum!
For dessert, I like anything that is not too sweet or creamy. Maybe sorbet, cause that matches the sour taste of the lemon juice.

side dishes? oh come on. alright, alright. 1/2 pint of drawn butter and a lemon.
EDIT >> guess the guy above me here knows how to eat lobster. if you're left wanting, your lobster was too small to start.

Tossed salad with a light lemon/poppyseed dressing or oil/vinegar.
Try cous cous pilaf or a rice pilaf with celery, onions and diced carrots.
Definitely need drawn butter for your lobster, with either fresh squeezed lemonjuice or lemon wedges on the side.
Vegetables -could be green beans served with toasted sliced/slivered almonds or an Asparagus with Hollandaise sauce.

I'd go with a steamed green like broccoli or cauliflower with hollandaise. The lemony flavor of the hollandaise will complement well. Then maybe some wild rice or a rice pilaf.

asparagus. Remember, lobster is rich. You neet to off set it alittle. Keep the sides light.
