I have a 9m old Pug/Boston Terrier Mix. Whenever I leave her sight (even if its just that I take a shower and dont let her come in) she starts whining and barking and scratching at the door or if I put her in her crate start shaking her crate. Then once I come back, she will jump, and bark and nip a little bit. However, the whole time her tail is wagging and she'll calm down after a couple minutes. Is there anyway to have her calm down and have her not flip out the way she does when I'm gone even for a short period of time?

When you return to her, don't make it a big deal. Part of what happens with that separation anxiety is the human makes it such a big deal when they return the dog is anticipating the excitement of the return.

Dr. Patricia McConnell has written a wonderful book on helping Separation Anxiety called: "I'll be Back Soon". It is a small booklit and can help a lot.

Kasey, no vets are on this site, they don't have time. What's stopping you from phoning your vet? When mine get a case of worms I call my vet and get the meds to handle it. You have to know which type of parasite it is (or take in a sample so they can see), but the meds will take care of it. Cloves don't help dogs get rid of worms. It probalby upset their stomachs. The fact they're not eating OR drinking seems to indicate that something other than the worm situation is going on. You likely haven't looked into any alternative vet care---most cities have their animal control unit AND the local shelters doing community programs that provide low cost vet care. PHONE them and ask. If they say no, ask which breed rescues they work with and get the contact info and phone those people and ask which low cost vet they use. You can also google 'help with vet bills' and do your research there to see which you qualify for. But leaving two sick young dogs without needed vet care is not an option. Work out payments with the vet if you need to, but don't just ignore a medical problem. Scared or not, YOU are the owner and YOU need to be the one to get them help.

Some dogs do suffer anxiety. 9 mos old?? I would try to make her control. lv door open as u shower and yel to her calm down!! The dog toy kong u put treat inside and it takes work for him to get it out. keeping them occupied. Also hiding treats while u r out & play radio tv & ring ur phone. I would work hard w/her now as if these habits continue you will need anxiety drugs when shes older.they get costly!

she probably just has seperation anxiety which is common with puppies. you might wan t to let her out more so she burns off more energy. find a toy that she really likes and occupies her time. use that for when you leave
