Rear projection tv's are not totally flat. Buy an LCD tv (non- rear projection)... which is totally flat.

Rear projection TVs are considerably "wider" than Plasma or LCD TVs. But if you don't plan to mount the TV on a wall, it should not matter to you.

Projection LCD TVs have small LCD panels inside the TV and they project the picture to a bigger screen.
