Giving someone an "ultimatum" is never the best option. Ultimatums tend to make people rush into decisions without thinking things through. Giving the boyfriend and ultimatum might backfire, and instead of a husband, the girl might get an ex-boyfriend and a broken heart.
I think the asker chose this answer because she wanted an immediate solution to her problem or because there were no other answers worth considering.
