My son is 6 years old. I took him to the ER on last Tuesday. He had a fever of 104.xx. The doctor looked down his throat with a little flashlight looking thing and said he has streep throat. No swab test. They gave him a prescription for KEFLEX. I have also been alternating Tylenol and Motrin. His temp now goes up and down. Mostly goes up at night or after he has just woke up. What do I do.

Take him back, to a different doctor and insist on tests. There could be many other illnesses beside strep. Not all antibiotics work on those other illnesses. I would say the ER doctor was negligent.

Is he still on the Keflex? Call the Dr. office and explain about the ER and let them know how he is doing and let your pediatrician decide when he should come back in. When in the ER did they tell you to make a follow up appointment? They should have.

wait i don't get it he has a STEEP throat or a STREP throat
because if he told you a strep throat that mean he has bacterial infection with streptococcus, why did he gave him keflex, usually strep throat take 3-7 days with treatment and the drug of choice is Augmentin(Amoxicilline)in case he is not allergic to pencillines, and most strep throat don't need treatment and resolved spontaneously ,but i think your son need medical intervention and Antipyretic

The ER doctor did not diagnose your son correctly. He did not take enough time and he did not do the proper tests. Take him back and insist that all those things be done.

He should be getting better by now. I would take him to the family doctor. Does he have pain anywhere? Some bacteria are resistant to some antibiotics, he may have one of those strains.
