My husband left this week for Iraq and my 3 year old who has been potty trained for 2 months and has had no accidents started peeing in his clothes 3-5 times a day. I realize this is somehow related to his stress with the situation. I have tried pretty much everything. Being nice...Being upset...Offering an incentive if he does not pee in his clothes...Praising him when he goes in the toilet and asking if he needs to go several times....Nothing is working. I want to handle this the best way possible. Please let me know if you have dealt with this situation and what worked to stop it. Thanks.

Try not to get upset. This will only make things worse a, as the problem is stress related. You could use pullups for a while until the regression passes. Many children, especially boys seem to become unpotty trained just after you think you have them. Be positive and stay calm.

This is an issue created by feelings of abandonment and stress. You have to be very diligent about expressing your love and acceptance of your child. He doesn't know how to deal with his feelings yet and this is how he is expressing himself. Just treat him with a lot of love and caring. Don't make a big deal out of his accidents. I know it's hard, but he really needs to feel love and acceptance right now. He will get over it eventually. When they regress you have to start over. That's all there is to it.
