I should clarify. My family is moving to the area because of the Navy. I will be on a ship in Bremerton. I would like to know the best places to live and NOT to live. I have heard that Bremerton is not the best place. Makes sense as it is by a shipyard. So where are the family friendly areas and how far of a drive is Port Orchard? Thank you...

Bremerton is a small town. There is really not much there other than the Navel Ship Yard. My husband worked outside of Bremerton this past summer and we stayed in his hotel room and road the ferry back and forth to Seattle. Near the ferry dock is a Hampton Inn and Anthony's restaurant. That area is nice. The rest of the town is pretty dumpy. I have never seen as many pawn shops and tattoo parlors. We also saw a few strip clubs. I didn't feel like I was in any danger while I was there, but I wasn't out at night. I would never choose to vacation there.

Stay away from the West Park area. Basically, the area along Kitsap Way near the highway. Also, although the area around the ferry terminal is ok, you can run into trouble just a couple blocks away at night. Best bet is East Bremerton area. And actually, there is only one strip club in the entire county, and that's a little place in Gorst.

Edmonds! It's a very cute town, and the edmonds school district is very good. Lots of nice neighborhoods, and its right by the beach! Maybe stay away from South Seattle, and Everett. But Edmonds is a very nice area. Or you could look into Shoreline, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Mill Creek. hope i helped :)

I agree with Marty...the Harborside District is nice, but the rest of the city looks pretty shabby. The whole place seems somewhat abandoned to me.
