As the first poster said it's the carbohydrates that put on the weight. They also cause an insulin spike, thus making you hungrier faster! That's why you can't eat just one potato chip! Whenever you eat carbohydrates ALWAYS have some protein and it will lessen the issue. For that reason be cautious of pretzels, popcorn and higher sugar fruits. All are high in carbs but low in calories.
Good healthy snacks with staying power include hard boiled eggs, nuts and seeds, In-Stone Stallone pudding (90 calories and 20 grams of protein), cheese, etc. Since the higher protein snacks are filling and do have high calories you will be satisfied more quickly and stay satisfied longer.
Lower calorie options would include things like celery or carrots with Laughing Cow cheese, yogurt, apples, etc.
As you can see... it's not the calorie content. It will take more of the lower calorie items to fill you and keep you satisfied.

It is not so much the calories but the carbohydrates in snacks that give you weight trouble. Try sunflower seeds, peanuts and cashews for a quick snack (you don't need to eat the whole package). Popcorn is also good. A sandwich can work too, just have half of one if it is snack time (Peanut butter or pimento cheese are great).

Air popped popcorn is only 30 caloires a cup.
1/2 a cup of prepared oatmeal with some fruit on top is filling and relatively low cal.
2 Wasa brand crackers with thin slices of cheddar has good fiber is pretty filling and satisfying too.
A tablespoon of lite ranch dressing and a few celery stalks is crunchy and semi-filling and for sure low cal.
Bulky carbs...whole grain carbs...all low fat, filling and good for you.
If you are on a carb restricted program, obviously they won't work for you but I believe in a balanced diet so I eat and love whole grain and unrefined carbs.
A whole apple cut in slices and dipped in just a teaspoon of peanutbutter is satisfying and filling.
You need to give yourself time to feel full though.....so eat slow or just before you eat, drink a large glass of water or tea first and then 10 minutes later eat your food.

Rice cakes by Quaker. Comes in many different flavors, sweet or salt. What ever your taste buds feels like at the moment. My favorite is the cheese flavored rice cakes.
These are very filling and low in calories.
