I use to be very worldly, but the death of my loved one actually made me question God and as i learned more about my religion i became content and now i am very close to God.

Yes, when a person gains (a baby, spouse) or looses (thru death, divorce) that person changes and grows. A persons heart opens or closes depending on what that person learns.
Ever see the Grinch? That's real, growth, in people really happens. Also many people live for revenge of a loved one, hunting the bad guy to the exclusion of all else.
Death causes a lot of these introspective searches, being old, I can see where I have fewer years to change bad habits, to get into heaven with loved ones, as I did when I was younger.

Can be. Sometimes when you loose a person that meant a lot to you and who added security to your life, it can happen that you will start to wonder about things you never wondered about before. Sometimes death gets people thinking about life, and it can throw up questions, questions like "Am I following the right religion, am I really in the will of God?". I think it's natural that such questions might come up after a death, it says in Psalms 90:12, "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."
In case you are writing this because you lost someone, let me express my sympathy.

Any major trama in our lives can change us. When someone dies we are faced with the fact that we will one day die and we become more serious about religion or seeking truth.

Don't ask the members of the Donner party headed west. In my opinion, hot sauce could have help them more than religion when it comes to dealing with it.
