I have always heard you start from the top down. In this case, I would find a sofa you like and get it ordered. Using the color swatch of the sofa, pick a paint color and start painting the room. Once the paint is dry and the sofa arrives, then start looking for the rug. Use that sofa fabric swatch to find one that coordinates with both the paint and the sofa.

Start by painting the walls. Don't be afraid of color, do what you like. Then comes the floor. Again, pick out what you like but now you do need to consider the wall colors. Last is the furniture. As a long term investment pick neutral colors that go with everything. This way if your taste changes in wall or rug colors the furniture is still OK. Good Luck.

It depends on what inspires you. Say you really love the color green. Paint your wall a shade of green. Then, go find a sofa that compliments your wall color. Next, find a rug that harmonizes with the paint and the sofa.

If you are unsure, go out shopping for a sofa. Find one you really love. The paint and rug will come easily then.

Good luck!!

Pick out a color coordinated rug and sofa. Then pick a color within the sofa or rug for paint. Paint the room, then move the rug and sofa in.

You'll need to decide on a what you want your room to look like in regard to style of furniture. Then always paint first. If you have an idea of what style you want your furniture to be, it isn't hard to decide on a color, then choose your room color from that. Its easier to change a painted room to another color than it is to change your furniture.

First you paint, the paint is only about $20.00. Then buy the sofa so you will have something to sit on. If you get the sofa first you might get paint on it.

pick your colour scheme, flooring window treatments etc to be installed after the painting, then pick your paint colour it only takes a part of a day to paint a living room two coats (i can do it in my sleep after 35+ years of painting),the floor is next, then do the windows and then the furniture...this project should only take 3-4 days to complete. good luck.
