How the Draft has Changed Since Vietnam
If a draft were held today, it would be dramatically different from the one held during the Vietnam War. A series of reforms during the latter part of the Vietnam conflict changed the way the draft operated to make it more fair and equitable. If a draft were held today, there would be fewer reasons to excuse a man from service.

Before Congress made improvements to the draft in 1971, a man could qualify for a student deferment if he could show he was a full-time student making satisfactory progress toward a degree.

Under the current draft law, a college student can have his induction postponed only until the end of the current semester. A senior can be postponed until the end of the academic year.

Nothing wrong with that...Student deferments were a cop out and cowardly way to avoid serving..........I worked for a Jewish guy, that majored in Latin ( Dead language)only, to become a store owner. He proudly boasts of how he stayed out of VietNam.....I no longer work for such a low life. Besides, if he had been drafted, he would be so cowardly, he would cause his fellow servicemen to be killed.

He sounded very biased when you consider that he used the observe "stupid," and the words, "getting shot," and "brains blown out." the conception of permitting college scholars to no longer be despatched to conflict got here from WWII initially. the conception grow to be that scientists and destiny scientists could do more suitable for the conflict by using attending to entice close, interpreting, gaining knowledge of and inventing then being despatched off to strive against. In Vietnam, college scholars were technically drafted, yet they were then released for school. They nevertheless had to document in, yet were then released. Even people not worthy for service would nicely be referred to as in for a draft and were then released after a actual. in the Vietnam draft, they did not favor as a lot of people as they did for WWII, so that they could exempt more suitable people. in the not likely experience there's a draft back, college will likely no longer be an exemption because college grow to be a uncommon element, immediately that's undemanding position in American society. the picture of in case you back to the previous due 1800s and early 1900s, severe college equivalent grow to be more suitable uncommon the position immediately that's virtually mandatory. the criteria for a draft are determined off of the desires of the rustic hostile to the accessible inhabitants for service. So any destiny draft would nicely be some thing if the favor is undesirable sufficient.

Men who have turned 18 must register for the draft, but at the moment there is no draft. Better go back and take U.S. history over again, hoss. In 1973, the draft ended and the U.S. converted to an All-Volunteer military.

The changes made to the DRAFT after Vietnam was that they got rid of the DRAFT... why do you guys listen to ridiculous little websites that don't have all their facts straight... After Vietnam realizing all their mistakes... they made the military completely Volunteer... Men still have to sign up for Selective Service when they graduate high school however that is only in the case of severe need... such as our country is under attack and we don't have enough military, however I think if our country was under attack, most people wouldn't have a problem volunteering..right now we have enough volunteers and enough incentives to volunteer... right now it's probably getting harder for recruiters to recruite.. however before they pull in the Selective Service, they will pull back in the Reserves, former military personnel, and retired personnel.... before they ever start the draft
