William Shepphard first patented liquid soap on August 22, 1865. In 1980, the Minnetonka Corporation introduced the first modern liquid soap called SOFT SOAP brand liquid soap. Minnetonka cornered the liquid soap market by buying up the entire supply of the plastic pumps needed for the liquid soap dispensers. In 1987, the Colgate Company acquired the liquid soap business from Minnetonka.

No, body wash wasn't invented until the mid-90's. They used bar soap mostly. The most popular one then was Ivory Soap. There were funny commercials about how Ivory soap is pure and that it floats.

I remember in the 1950's we had lie soap and if it didn't take the skin off your body you were fine. We didn't have the issues the young people have today no pimples no black heads. Hell you were lucky too have skin! When you went out even in the winter you looked like you had a sun burn. Those were the days!!

We always used Ivory Soap. And it's since been found to be so full of Alkaline, that's why it dried everybody up! They didn't do tests back then...
