You will probably have to pick up your luggage in Los Angeles, go through customs, then re-check it for your last flight to JFK. This is what I have had to do when making connections after a flight into the US. Have a good trip!

LAX is your first port of entry, that's where you go through immigration and custom, so you will claim your luggage there.
I don't think Philippine airlines has baggage agreement with Delta, but it doesn't hurt to ask when you check in.
If Philippine airlines can check your bag to JFK, the tag they put on it will have the DL flight number and destination JFK. At LAX, you would claim the bag, go through customs, then follow the sign to connections and drop off that bag. Then you would exit the international terminal (Tome Bradley), and walk or take the LAX free shuttle to the Delta terminal (I think it's 5). I doubt you can get DL boarding pass from Philippine airlines so you'll have to go to the DL check-in counter.
If Philippine airlines cannot check your bag to JFK, then the only difference would be you take your bag over to the DL terminal yourself and check in there.

Ok, when you leave, and arrive at the connecting city, you do not get your luggage then. It it the airlines job to transfer your luggage to your next flight. When you arrive at the final destination, they will tell you which baggage claim carousel that you go to. You will repeat this exactly the same on your returning flight.

USUALLY you check your bags at the beginning of a flight and retrieve them at your final destination, but there are some exceptions. On a flight from Scotland to Atlanta I checked my bags in Scotland but had to re-check them in London. The best thing to do is ask the person at the baggage check just to be sure.

If you are makinig supstops normally your checked bags are put on a completely different flight and are awaiting you when you arive at your final destination, or it is automaticlly transfered flight to flight for you. You only have to worry about claiming your bags at you destination. Hope this helps, Brodster

If you are really transferring, and didn't simply buy another flight for the same day, then your luggage will (should) be transferred for you.
