……………………….
Most have read when Cain talked with Abel and in the field killed him.
Gen.4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
God then cursed and drove Cain out, and Cain said.
Gen.4:14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
WHO IS CAIN WORRIED ABOUT?
Gen.4:17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

Old Chief, God created, not made. God created only Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve made Cain and Abel. Cain killed Abel--no mention as to Abel having any off springs at the time. Adam and Eve had Seth (Genesis 4:25), and many other sons and daughters (Genesis 5:4). With likely hundreds of years of child-bearing capability, Adam and Eve likely had 50+ children in their lifetime. The Gene Pool was pure in that time, no worry of genetic abnormalities as there would be today. So Cain married a sister or the daughter of one of his sisters or brothers. As these various bonding took place, the blood of one heir would be diminished within a blood line, but the whole would still be practically pure and alike as Adam and Eve's blood or gene pool would be. It all had to start again after the Noah Flood. Noah and his wife and three sons and their three wives--so again there would be interbreeding of close relatives but the blood or gene pool was still rather pure.

Genesis 4:17 says, "Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch." Who was his wife? It is implied in the biblical text that Cain married one of his sisters. Several facts lead us to this conclusion.
First, it is clear that Adam and Eve had a number of children. Genesis 5:4 says, "After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters." Since Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, and since God had commanded them (and their descendants) to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28), it seems reasonable to conclude that Cain married one of his many sisters. It is also possible that he married a niece or even a grandniece.
One must keep in mind that in the early years of the human race there were no genetic defects that had yet developed as a result of the fall of man. By the time of Abraham, God had not yet declared this kind of marriage to be contrary to His will (see Genesis 20:12). Laws governing incest apparently did not become enacted until the time of Moses (Lev 18:7-17; 20:11,12,14,17,20,21). Hence, there was no prohibition regarding marrying a sister (or niece or grandniece) in the days of Cain.

Cain killed Abel ( nowhere are we told Abel was married) but after the murder, God punished Cain by sending him to the land of Nod, before he went Cain told God that ALL WHO SEEN HIM would want to kill him so God put a mark on Cain ( and no we DO NOT KNOW WHAT THAT MARK WAS)so that all you saw it would know not to harm him. Then when Cain reached Nod, he knew his wife.( we are not told if he met her along the way, or if she was in the land of Nod, but apparently there were other people present on the earth for the mark to be put on Cain. Think about it.
In Deut. 29:29 It tells us that the SECRET THINGS BELONG TO GOD.
If we do not understand in this life we can ask (if it is still important) when we see God.
Does it really matter??? God must not have thought so or he would have went into more detail.
We are told not to dwell on contritious questions.

google ""lilith ""it may give you an answer or at least food for thought
Late medieval Jewish legend portrays her as the first wife and equal of Adam. Considering Adam inferior, Lilith left the Garden of Eden of her own free will (Other stories claim Lilith refused to lie under Adam, as she considered that this was too submissive). Adam then bade three angels to find Lilith and bring her back. When Lilith refused, God punished her by commanding that she slay 100 of her children, called Lilin, each day. Lilith is also sometimes considered to be the paramour of Satan.[citation needed]

their sisters
I thought i should add more to it..EDIT>We're not told how many children Adam and Eve had altogether, but they certainly had plenty of time to raise a very large family.
Adam and Eve were created perfect in every way. Their children would also, no doubt, be born physically and genetically perfect. Therefore, Cain's wife could be one of his sisters with no problems. Likewise, many of Adam and Eve's children would have inter-married with no problems.
"None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness. " (Leviticus 18:6).
God does not condone near-relative marriages. Had God's command to Israel been given to Adam and Eve, and they and their children all obeyed it, mankind would have quickly died out. God, therefore, had to temporarily allow intra-family marriages to increase his earthly family.

Well Genesis is a myth, but the men who wrote the OT did not believe the names of the women were worth the trouble of mentioning.
It was a patriarchal (and patrilineal) culture after all.
Lilith must have been hot though!

Your point: the Bible is inconsistent.
Of course it is. It isn't a history book, and it isn't a scientific text. In mythological and poetic forms, it sets forth the convictions of the ancient Hebrews about the nature of ultimate reality. It's those convictions that I find existentially compelling -- and not necessarily the particular literary genres in which they're expressed. (Although the Bible qua literature is often moving and occasionally truly sublime.)

Even though it is never said clearly, we can only surmise that they were their sisters. Gross...sure...in our times. The gene pool was perfect in that time. The only reason you do not marry within your family now is that you risk a deformed child. We are thousands and thousands times removed from Adam and Eve. Our gene pool is so dirty, it needs to be forbidden to procreate within.
