that is a stereotype. the question should be "why are some people in new york so rude". and the answer to that is..... i don't know, maybe they have bad days alot with all the commotion and what not.

I find that in much of the northeast. In NY, "rude" is qualitative.
Every person is different. Actually, my experience has always been good.
When you get to know somebody, the tough exterior seems to disappear.
There are just too many people, so you can't "get to know" everyone.
It's just not like small-town-living.

I don't thinkn they are that rude, really. They just don't like to have their time wasted. I've found that they are helpful if you are lost and things like that...they just don't want to be hustled. Once they've figured out you are for real, they are ok.

I think it's a prerequisite. Or we can go with answer: too many people. too crowded.

it is just how they talk... it is their tone... they're not all rude...
