How many cluster bombs can a B-52 carry at a time. Also, how does the molten copper work. Does it melt on tanks and explode or does it just explode on impact?

Great question. Also called the butterfly bomb. Here is where you can find your answer. Everything you ever wanted to know about all types of cluster bombs:

This last one is terrific.

Not sure about the 1st part, but the molten copper forms in a process called self-forging. The heat from the explosive charge melts the casing. The shape of the charge forms the munition into a very efficient penetrating shape which blows through the target or anything else in the way.

Great question.

70,000 lbs is the payload. I believe cluster bombs can range from 500 - 1000 lbs.

I am not in the USAF. I hope you find the answer.
