My daughter and I have recently been placed on my husbands Tricare insurance. It starts Feb 1. At first they told me it was a female dr-which I want for both me and her. Got a letter in the mail saying that they changed the dr to a male dr and that If I'd like to change it to contact them. How hard is it to do this? What do I need to do if I decide to keep her pediatrician and my OBGYN? How much would Tricare cover, if anything if I was to do that?

Tricare will not cover Dr's who do not participate in the plan.
If you are near a base, you will find more doctors who accept Tricare. Or, if there is a base hospital, you could go there for free.
If you are not near a base, you are subject to whoever is near you. Check the Tricare website to find participating doctors in your area.

The Former Spouse is not always notified by Tricare that they are no longer covered, they would be notified in the separation/divorce that as soon as it is final the coverage stops. If they continue to go to and use Tricare afterwards they will be charged. They would NOT be notified by Tricare at all that there is a new spouse added or any other dependents. If they do then that is a violation of Right of Privacy. It has nothing to do with the prior spouse at all.

If the doctor is not part of the network then they will only pay 50% (I think) so you will have co-pays. Which you don't want. Go to tricare.org and look up the area you are in and the network providers that are in that area. Do it soon, some times they can tell you you'll have to wait another 30 days if you don't call in by a certain date. Just depends on the reason why you are changing.
I never have had a problem dealing with tricare. They are easy to get a hold of and will answer your questions you have. They should also send you booklet on tricare about they cover, their doctors and so on.

If your current Pediatrition and OBGYN are PARTICIPATING Tricare providers, it won't be an issue to change. If they aren't, then you will be paying a lot out of pocket Because Tricare doesn't reimburse all that much, and legally the doctor can charge you the difference between what Tricare pays and what they charge.

Here are two Tricare websites that have information that may help you. I had tricare when i first got out of the Army and what I know from tricare is that you have to be your own best advocate.

if you continue going to your current doctors you will pay out of pocket as they arent your assigned pcms. they gave you a doctor either go to that person and see what you think or asked to be changed. its a pian in the butt to do but can be done by going into the office. they will not switch you without you seeing the doctor first dont judge a doctor based on gender thats unfair to male doctors
