Immigrants in the late 1800's and early 1900's contribued to a huge industrial boom in the United States's economy, resulting in
new techologies such as airplanes. Had immigration not happened, would our country been powerful enough to withstand war?

I asked a simple question, yet everyone is giving me lectures about "legal" and "illegal" immigrants. People try to act too smart on here. If you didn't know anything about Immigration in the early 19th century, you shouldn't have answered because none of the answeres answered my question. I don't need to know anything about the difference of illegal and legal immigrants today. Answer because you know the answer, not because you want to sound smart and talk about something that isn't even in the question.

We wouldn't have had the railway system and the Industrial Revolution would never have happened without immigrants. I doubt the Union Army would have won the Civil War without the steady stream of immigrants to keep enough men in the army. Our history is what it is because of immigrants, it's a story of immigrants, now immigrant has become a dirty word. I agree with you 100%.

The Wright brothers were offspring of LEGAL immigrants who came to reside in North Carolina. Heres some food for thought for you, who & where was the television invented? Which country did this persons parents immigrate from LEGALLY?
If you want to spin things buy a phonograph, theres some more LEGAL immigrant contributions for you.
Show me some practical contributions which ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS have made in this century, other than that, all you have is empty rhetoric. Sounds like the ocean when you hold a seashell to your ear.

Actually, Americans built this country. Immigration averaged only 235,000 persons per year prior to the disastrous 1965 Immigration Act. That's only 47 million immigrants over the course of our nation's history.
Compared to our current population of 300 million, that's not much. And then, if we add all the people who have lived before in the United States, we are approaching a billion total Americans who live now or who have lived in this country—all of them, or at least most of them, busy "building" it.
You are really reaching on this one .And besides you are speaking of LEGAL immigrants not ILLEGAL ALIENS.
There is a difference.

This is a nation of immigrants and should remain that way.
immigrants from all over the world are what makes this country great.
so sorry but I must now state that ILLEGAL immigrants have done NOTHING to improve this nation and will only drag it down.
please come one come all just do it by the rules!

WHAT are you talking about? The USA was not under direct threat in those wars. We were helping Europe. Even the attack upon Pearl Harbor was an attack to take our power out of SE Asia, NOT an attempt at invasion. There is no one who ever though that Japan, spead out all through th Pacific, was ever a threat to giant USA.
Your have no clue.
We went to WW I and II to save Europe and punish Japan. It only makes sense that European immigrants shoould fight.
To asnwer your question, nothing much would have happened in the US if had noot been involved, expcept we may have ended up with fewer trading partners in Europe. Russian would have beaten Germany sooner or later, USA or no USA.

Yes but the immigrants then knew they had to fight for this country and earn freedoms, keep the constitution and respect other Americans. Illegals do none of those things they want a free ride.

America was founded on immigration of people who wanted to BECOME AMERICANS. Thus, the major difference between them and todays immigrant leeches.

I hear what your saying. But the immigrants of those years were more apt to contribute.not steal, rape, deal drugs, murder, & complain..but on the other hand they did'nt have a bunch of bleeding heart liberal wimps like you who are willing to put up with & encourage illegal activity either.
