Feed a cold and starve a fever is right, alternative is 2 Aspirin, 3 paracetamol, one mega cup of corrosive coffee and 1/2 bottle of whisky. Might not cure either a cold or a fever but you don't care afterwards.

While you have it correct - feed a cold, starve a fever, it is - as many other answerers have said - old wives' tales. Energy to fight off the infection, virus, bacteria comes from eating good food, with plenty of nutrients at this time. Especially eat those high in vitamin C and vitamin A (you will have to read up on these). And, as the other answerers have said, keep the water flowing in you to wash out the impurities.

Hope you get over yours soon, as I hope to recover from mine.

"FEED" does not mean eat something and it's starve a cold and feed a fever. That means when you have a cold, you should starve it by staying as warm as possible. Since warm is the oposite of cold, you starve the cold of... cold.

Feed a fever means to cover up and get yourself warm so you can sweat it out. Feed the heat of the fever so you will sweat it out.

Yes-you want to feed a cold- you need all the vitamins you can get at that time!! Starve a fever-you don't want a full stomach to curdle everything in there with a fever-the results are not good!!!YUCK!!! Good luck!!!

hahaha, remember that old comercial "WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS FEED A COLD" and that old deli man is trying to hand over like a huge hoagie! If it was on a TV comercial it can't be wrong!

Neither is correct and this can be a harmful old wives tale.
Fluids should be taken as much as possible, food as tolerated.
