Application of Chili paste or sauce can lead to avoidance of nail biting, as can be true with any other commonly available bitters or even a nail polish. However, nail biting is usually an unconscious act and is a sign of nervousness or anxiety/ tension. Therefore conscious efforts for breaking this habit are of utmost necessity and other means like applying bandages, chili paste etc can supplement the breaking of the habit.

I have the same problem, they make creams that have bitter tastes that you put on your fingers but that never works. I think that medication to treat OCD would be helpfull but specific to nail biting. While orginally it may have been caused from stress or OCD it becomes a habit. I think the best way to stop it might be Hypnosis. I am interested in what others say also. Anyone else with suggestions.

This isn't very conventional...but I have found that getting acrylic nails stops you from biting immediately...and your hands are instantly more attractive.
