I like to take them down on New Years day but some leave them up until after Epiphany(first Sat of the New year) others for Orthodox Christmas(Jan 7). I would hope everyone would have them down by Jan 15, that is really plenty long!

I have some Halloween decorations that stay up all year.
Fake trees can stay up however long someone wants.
Real trees should be taken out before they dry up and start shedding needles all over. Around here they collect them and use them in streams and riverbanks to prevent erosion and also serve as protective areas for small fish so they are recycled in a positive way.

There is no actual rule; this may be one of the only things the government hasn't regulated yet. (And if they do, start the Revolution!) Conventional wisdom is that they should be down after Jan 6th, but there are people who leave a tree up all year long as a matter of custom (an artificial tree, obviously).

My mom left hers up until New Years, but my grandma took hers down the day after Christmas. We used to know some cun'ry folk that would keep their tree up until Easter, but the lights around the house would stay up all year long, lol!

It's up to you. Some people have their Christmas decorations up all year, even in the summer months. I take them down on New Year's Day, right before all the bowl games come on. That has become a tradition for me. :)

we put ours up the first day of Dec. and take down the day after Christmas. Many people love the colors and decorations so they leave it longer to enjoy. I personally think its tacky to leave pass Jan 1st......but that applies only for me.

the day after Xmas. They put them up a good month before Xmas, why leave them up for weeks after? It just makes you look lazy if you do so.
