Cats do like newspaper. It makes a nice rustling noise, it's cool to lie on, and their humans seem fascinated by it. What's not to like??

When my cat was a kitten, he would always find the highest thing and sleep on it. Even if it was just a piece of printer paper laying on the floor, he would go right to it. He was so tiny when he was a kitten too. One time I had him in the living room on the coffee table and my fiance told me to come into the living room to look at what Boo (the kitten) was doing, and he was sitting perfectly right on top of the TV remote. He would always run for the highest thing, it was so cute. I don't know if that's why your cat is doing it, but still, it's good to reminisce. It is true what the first answerer said, a lot of cats do like paper. Mine love cardboard boxes.

No he is just being a normal cat. My cat loves to lay on a newspaper or wrapping paper or a paper bag. This is just doing their thing.

No my cats enjoy sleeping on newspaper, boxes, and backpacks. I think it is just the feeling of the paper and roughness beneath them.

well my cat loves to do that too,he would sleep,play,and scratch newspapers whenever he sees one.i read in a newspaper that cats are generally attracted to crumpling sounds such as leaves, paper and other similar sounds, so hes perfectly normal.no worries.

Your cat is fine. My kitties like to walk straight up to me and then lay on top of the book I'm reading. Cats are just drawn to paper, especially if you're reading it.

My cat used to lay on all paper every time I laid on the floor and did homework he would either lay on top of my book or on my papers. Cats must like paper or something

my cat likes to sleep on and in sacks and cardboard boxes, she only sits on newspaper if it is in my lap.
she also like the g-3 next to this one.
cats each have their little quirks and preferences, it makes them individual.
