I understand it's fiction, but how much of what is written in the novel or shown in the film is widely-accepted historical fact in the Christian community?
With all due respect, I've always wondered the First Council of Nicaea actually solidified the right path for the future of Christianity, or did it make things worse?

Well, I guess you could debate all points. Was Da Vinci real? Yes. Was he a Templar Knight? Probably not. Was Mary Magdalene really not a whore? Yes. Was she married to Jesus? Debatable (even though many will say no). It would be far wiser to consider this book fiction, and research each point individually.
Your second paragraph would be a good question on it's own and highly debatable at that...

If the Da Vinci Code "information" are real, that could recommend that Jesus exchange right into a guy and not a paranormal being. (additionally Mary does not be seen divine simply by fact all she did exchange into have a toddler). In believing the action picture, you will desire to understand the certainty that Jesus exchange into purely a guy who carried out great works. For some human beings, i think of that is sufficient. i think of a few human beings could nonetheless shop on along with his teachings whether he exchange into purely a guy, yet for sure others does not experience a similar way. some human beings could choose an more advantageous ability (an more advantageous immortal being) with a view to discover convenience of their faith. I watched it this weekend for entertainment fee purely, and that i presumed it exchange right into a great action picture.

Not widely accepted, but it has been a rumor for a long time. Read Holy Blood, Holy Grail if you want the non-fiction book that it was modeled on. The History Channel has a couple of documentaries that run every so often. There is a small amount of evidence that backs it up, but it is pretty thin.
But the Bible story has pretty thin evidence to back it up to. I guess the whole thing is there really isn't anyway to tell.

Not much although it amazes me what all the outrage is about if it were true !
when did being married become sin?scripture tells us while he was fully God he was also fully human and is supposed to experience all that man encounters in life!
I think some folks just want something (anything) to be outraged at even when none is present!
as for the council of Niccia i personaly feel it made things worse by including a lot of pagan practice into the Church!

None.
The documents cited are genuine fakes. They exist, but they are not based on any factual evidence or source. DaVinci was a model Christian- there are letters of his along with other writings confirming that.
Also, you gotta figure that Jesus, of all "people" would announce He and Mary were married- in fact He would have had the most amazing wedding ever! He knew what He was here for and so did she. Their love was genuine; just like mine for Him. Love is what the message of the Bible is all about and anything contradicting Love is not of God.
There is more out there denouncing any truth to the Code than Dan Brown can even keep up with. Take it for what it IS, an interesting and entertaining read. The coolest thing about the DC is all the attention Jesus gets from it. What he hath planned for evil, God has turned to good... once again. God bless

I don't know. I'm watching the movie for the first time tonight. But there have been several documentaries on the History Channel about this same thing. I need to educate myself a bit more on this before I make a definitive comment.

There's actually a lot of the movie that they think is historical fact-but then they get crazy hollywood with it. What I think is utterly ridiculous is how deep they look into DaVinci's last supper painting-I bet DaVinci would be laughing his butt of at these people if he were alive today.

Nun. It is a fictional account written to interest a number of people that have no knowledge of our FATHER in Heaven. Have a great week.
