Wife or girlfriend...but that reads as WOGS - which may make the usual crowd of Answers snigger (ahem), but as I've found out in time - some abbreviations..and even words, slip through the net with pride and a whupped rear shine!

Wives of players and girlfriends of players, have you realised that if it was wives OR girlfriends the abbreviation would be WOGS!! not very nice and would not go down well I am sure.

because it was the collective name given when they were trailing round the shops at one of the big tournaments.
I agree tho its stupid to call an individual a WAG cos they can't be a wife and girlfriend
