Just replaced the alternator my car, after reconnecting the battery I get power but it will not start. According the the repair manual it is the anit-theft mode and requires the activation code to be input thru the stock radio. I replaced the radio, but still have it I think, do I need to have the original deck that it came with? Is there some number besides a dealer I can call? We bought the car used for our daughter and after a $400 replacement key experience would perfer not to go to a dealer. Any manual that might help me?

the no start condition has nothing to do with the radio. here is how you tell if it's an immobilzer issue causing your problem. turn the ign key on to run position, but dont try to start it. look at all of the lights that are lit up on the dash. is there a flashing immobilizer light on? this looks like an outline of a car with a key in the center of it. if yes, the ign keys will have to be reprogrammed. if no, it's not an immobilizer issue causing a no start. try another key to the car, and see if it will start with that one. once in a great while the immobilizer will lose memory. doesnt happen often. you will have to tow it to a vw dealer. no none else has the equipment to fix it. an audi dealer comes close, but not the right software. remember, there is no code to put into the radio to make the car start. that code is for the radio unlock feature, to make the radio play again.
