I am Aussie and have lived in Russia for the past 2 years.

My Russian Visa is now expired and I'm leaving the country for Spain.

The questions i have are -

1. Will Russia allow me to travel directly to Spain, rather than Australia first?

2. When i arrive in Spain, will they check my return ticket and notice that it is for Russia rather than Australia and then see that my Russian visa has expired so there is no way im going back there and then not allow enter?

Im planning to purchase a 1 way ticket to Barcelona if the airline allows it. When i get to Barcelona will they ask me these questions such as, where is my return ticket? or why do you have a return ticket to Russia but your Russian Visa has expired?

When arriving in Barcelona i will tell them, that i am planning to travel Europe for up to 3 months, and i do not know which place in Europe i will be exiting from, this is the reason i do not have a return ticket yet.

Wow, i hope i explained clear.

Thank you in advance.

It depends on the Customs officer you talk to at the airport in Barcelona; what I don't like about Customs officers is that any one has the authority to ruin your holiday. Before you leave Russia, you should check with the Spanish embassy there first, if there is one. One of the tasks of a Customs officer is to make sure that you are not going to stay there forever, so try to make it sound like you have everything planned out and know exactly when, and from where, you will be departing. If you don't know from where you will be returning back to Oz, but you do know approx. when, it would be nice to buy a return ticket from a big city that is centrally located or that has a really busy airport, such as London Heathrow, Charles de Gaulle in Paris, or Berlin Tegel. Then, no matter where you are when it comes time to leave, you can just buy a ticket from one of the discount European airlines that will allow you to get to your departure city quickly. I prefer AirBerlin; I bought a ticket from Zürich to Amsterdam so I could catch my return flight back to Los Angeles, the morning of the same day of my departure from Amsterdam, for less than 100 EUR. Prices between most European cities are usually pretty comparable to that.

one Russia will not care where you go as long as you leave when your Visa is expired
as for Spain you canprobably tell them what ever you want concerning your returning to Russia or not (like you have applied you waiting for the visa to come via mail at your home in Australia) but the best thing will be for you to just ask immigration or just see and agent about making your return to Australia instead of Russia
Good Luck

Ask the Spanish embassy closest you ,I am sure an Australian can visit as a tourist, why not?You would be meeting the European Union rules since there are no borders any more within the EU.
