i guess i wont tell you to buy a better one. I'm gonna guess you already have a good ceramic straightener then because you'd know that they already help in that matter. They are more gentle on the hair and dont burn it like the cheap ones. Your hair isnt going to stay straight too well if its dry and damaged, but you already know that. Plus, they do get your hair straighter than the cheap ones and its easier to keep your hair straight all day if it begins that way.
So since you're not stupid and you already have a good ceramic straightener like SEDU or Solia, go out and buy some biobsilk hair therapy. Put it on prior to straightening your hair and then after as needed. You can also try the straightening shampoos and conditioners. They dont work on me cuz i have really curly hair, but for some they work. Also, you can try using a light gel or hair spray.
If you live in a humid place like miami, then its almost impossible to maintain straight hair all day. If thats the case and you really really want straight hair all day, i would suggest getting your hair permanently straightened with a process that's called "TR", Thermal reconditioning. That'll make your hair straight but its expensive.

Try 'Hot Straight' from L'oreal when straightening. I've got it, and despite the fact that I've got some cheapo hair straightener, the results were quite good. My friend, who uses a ceramic hair straightener, uses it too and she's always got straight hair the whole day long. It should also prevent your hair from getting damaged.

It DOES pay to have a good quality straightener. I found that cheaper ones don't heat evenly and just don't work as well.

You can try using mousse or a straightening, heat protective gel. The humidity in your area may also be causing your hair to curl up after it is straightened.

use an oil for dry split ends then use your straightener on top of that. i have even ironed my hair on the ironing board (with help course). use a damp wash cloth on top if you do that. i have found that that works everytime! my hair stays straight no matter what when i do that...just make sure you find a hair oil to coat your hair with. its like a silicone that will protect your hair...it also can make it heavy so it helps to weigh the curl down. plus keeps the frizz and wave away.

I recommend John Freida straightening balm or any other straightening balm or cream. What you do is , you take a pea size amount and rub it into both or your hands, then comb through your bottom layer of hair (the inside) with your fingers, then lightly smooth over your hairs surface with your hands.

What kind of climate do you live in? Does it go "unstraight" b/c of the humidity in the air? If it does, then right after you straighten it, put on some silicon drops (ie. Sebastian makes this & Citron) on it, to "seal the hair" and protect it from moisture.

hi!!!! I in simple terms use my Karmin G3 and my hair is right now for see you later as i do not wash it :) It lasts aaaages and my hair is clearly bit curly so that is exceptional. Makes my hair truly vibrant too, yet that would also be because of the nice and comfortable temperature protectant i take advantage of earlier straightening. i take advantage of argan oil, that one is truly good for de-frizzing hair, plus that is not greasy and no silicones. that is called professional Naturals moroccan argan oil and that i have been given them on-line. I distinctly recommend to you:):):):)

well i think that there are many good cremes that keep your hair straight for a very long time. try putting one of those cremes on after you straighten your hair.
