Tanning is really bad for you skin. It actually is killing the collegen production in your skin (collegen is the elastic in your skin). I participate in pageants so i have to be tan. I have found that getting a good bronzing tanning lotion such as Bikini-tini, lipstick-tini, or smooth-tini and tanning in a high powered bronzing bed (you can't burn in bronzing bed) for 4 times plus a spray tan give me great color with out killing my skin.
Bronzing bed for 10 minutes is equivilant to two (20min) session in a low powered bed.
I also like to jergens moisturizing lotion with self tanner it smell funny so i use it at night and shower in the morning.
Good luck

It's not a good idea, but a lot of people do it. You could try other options first.
You could buy some self-tanning lotion from the store. The first time you apply it, you need to to apply it 2-3 times every few hours to get dark, then apply it when needed.
Some tanning salons have a special spray on self-tanning both. It's very expensive, but is fast & easy, & works great. You only need to go once every 5 days.

Try self-tanning lotions... they're not very expensive and also nourish your skin, making it softer. Drawback - you can't wear white clothing because the lotion will slowly transfer unto the clothes. And in about 5 days it will be gone altogether. But if what you're after is looking good for one night then it will do.
If you have more time on your hands... Go on a one week vacation somewhere sunny and sunbathe. Use sunscreen, but not with a very high SPF, something like 15 (unless you're planning to get a tan in Sahara) should do it. Sunbathe moderately each day, and at the end you'll have a beautiful tan.
Tanning does cause some problems, but only if you overdo it. Sunbathing a week once a year won't kill you I can guarantee that.

Holy cow I can't believe all the uninformed answers you have been given! I have worked in tanning solons for many years and tan myself. I am Smart Tan certified. The most important thing I can recommend to you is that DO NOT OVEREXPOSE YOURSELF!
Sooo many people think that if they burn they are getting color "I burn but then I tan right up"...wrong!! That is not how you should build a base tan, any redness is damage and that is bad. Your tanning consultant should do a skin type evaluation on you, and you will most likely start in a 20 minute bed and based upon your skin type they will recommend how long to start, average skin type with no base tan will usually start at about 10 minutes. Many people get impatient starting that low and want to see color (redness) but by starting slow and getting no redness whatsoever and increasing your time slowly til you reach the max is the best and safest way to build a base tan if you are going to tan indoors.

No! There are soooo many other ways to look tanner. Lotions, bronzers, vegetables, and spray tanners. You may not care now, but you will regret it in the future. It increases acne, skin cancer, redness and dryness of the skin, disgusting skin problems (my cousin member who has tanned since she was 15 and is now 20 has serious skin problems and possible skin cancer.) And after you do it for a while, you look orange, its gross. And just think of this, when your older, you look 70 times better than people who have tanned. It also ages your skin a tooooon faster and causes wrinkles way faster. Trust me, use other things besides a tanning booth.

I know a guy who runs a beauty & tanning salon. His insurance man told him that he could save $1000 on insurance if he took the word "tanning" off of the sign.
Aside from using a little bit of makeup, be happy with your skin as is.

DEFINATELY NOT!!!!
You should stay away from tanning salons. If you want more info on why check out the source link. You can try alternatives like sprays on tanning which can be done at many spas.

As long as you don't go everyday religiously then i think you'll be fine. for some people it works great, my step sister gets really dark going to the tanning salon, while i went every other day for about a year and never even so much as got a tan! but it was very relaxing, so it was worth it. Hope it works for you, and if not, enjoy it anyways and relax.

yes it is. My mom owns a tanning salon..so I pretty much know what ya gotta know. the one thing though about them is you lose your tan faster so its pretty much a winter thing to me. sure it can be dangerous but your pretty much in control of that and if you find a place thats really good at what they do then you dont have much risk of danger. i tan all the time and I love it. You should do it or atleast try it. if you start tanning and dont like it then just quit and wait till summer. hope i helped!

No, I have read too many stories of very young women and teen-aged women who developed skin cancer all because they wanted to tan in a tanning booth or stay out in the sun.
If you want your skin to have a healthy glow, make sure you go through the 3 steps of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Exfoliate as necessary and then try adding a bronzer to your make-up routine or a make-up like Bare Minerals.

No you shouldn't go to the tanning salon. It is 50 times more worse and can cause skin cancer more then waiting for the hot summer.
