In a relationship it means being insecure and imagining/being suspicious of a situation that might be happening with your partner. Also an illusion/knowing that the other person you`re jealous over, is somehow better looking/ more successful/ sexy/ than yourself. It`s a feeling that brings out all the insecurities and complexes that you have about yourself, thinking that someone else surpasses you, of whom your partner could be/is/has been attracted by.

Fortunately, I am not jealous by nature so I can't really give an opinion from the 1st person point of view. It seems to me that jealousy is a combination of a lack of trust and insecurity.

Fear...in a word. It is a 'racket' feeling. These are feelings that hide a truer feeling. So jealousy is a feeling that is a distortion of anger. It turns the anger into something more acceptable because even though jelousy is negative...it is at least associated to loving someone. It is therefore more neutral than anger.

The fear is because of the threat of loss.

I'm jealous of anybody better looking than me. I have only been jealous once, then realised it was a mirror.
